Hi, I'm Melissa...
I believe we each have a unique story, our stories matter, and what underlies all of our stories is a longing for connection. I am committed to being a student of you and building trust to companion you on your journey to untangle and explore your story and collaboratively work toward finding freedom and peace.
My counseling approach is creative, warm, and intuitive, based on Existential, Gestalt, IPNB, and Attachment theories, as each prioritizes the client’s experience, needs, and choices. I believe each person has immense value and capacity for change and will strive to offer nonjudgmental support and empower clients, always respecting their agency. I use trauma-focused therapy when applicable to help clients explore blocks to change and awaken to ease and joy.
I grew up on the Texas coast and have raised six children in the Austin area. Following 20+ years as an educator, I sensed an invitation to companion others on their healing journey. Movement has been a sustaining outlet for me since childhood. Whether in nature or a gym, I’m drawn to both the energetic intensity of weightlifting and boxing and the soothing rhythms of yoga and time on the water. I seek out places of beauty to soak in, finding nature invigorating, inspiring, and healing. Resonant and beautiful words are the language of my inner life, and I come home to myself most fully through reading and writing. My children remain the center of my life, and I savor this meaningful season with the youngest still at home, before the quiet of an empty nest.
